Press Release: Haven of Rest by Reneë Hope

Just Done Publishing

Just Done Productions - Publishers would like to announce the release of a new book Haven of Rest by Reneë Hope.

27 stories of abused women and their children.

There is no justification for abuse and no woman deserves to be abused under any circumstances.

This book gives the reader an insight into the plight of abused South African women from all walks of life and who have suffered all forms of abuse.

It includes information on

  • why women stay in abusive relationships
  • the cycle of abuse
  • the Domestic Violence Act
  • Contact information for organizations who will help abused women and their families.

Haven of Rest by Renee HopeThe author wrote:

“This book is about my experiences at Sisters Incorporated, a home for abused women and their children and pregnant women. I was a housemother there for eighteen months and taught painting classes once a week for two years and three months.

The stories are fictionally written, but they are similar to the events and circumstances that women find themselves in. Some are true stories and events that have occurred at the home.

Many women find themselves suddenly homeless, helpless and they don’t know where to turn to. I wrote this book to raise an awareness of the plight of these women, and also so that women who are in abusive situations will be aware that there is help out there for them.

They arrive at the safe house afraid, shattered, abused, insecure and needing safety, security, and nurturing - Emotionally, verbally and physically abused, with low self-esteem. They have very bravely made a start by deciding to leave their abusive situation. They often have to leave behind their precious possessions, their clothing, furniture, and arrive only with the clothes on their backs.

They are only with us for a few months. Many struggle to get jobs and find a small place to live when they leave here. Accommodation is extremely expensive, and then there is food and schooling and electricity, petrol and other payments to consider. The reality is that most fathers don’t provide maintenance and the court cases are endless. These women desperately need low cost housing, subsidized education and medical aid for their children.”

The book is available from Just Done Productions for R120.00.

We are offering a discounted price of R75.00 for purchases from our website for a limited time.

Press Release: Someone to Love by Dean Roberts

Just Done Publishing

Just Done Productions Publishing would like to announce the publication of "Someone to love" by Dean Roberts.

Someone to Love - By Dean RobertsThis is a story of love; an honest tale of ordinary people trying to make a difference in one boy's life.
A story about a severely abused 4 year old boy who touched the lives of his foster family in their brief time together. It is written by a South African foster parent. This book captivates the reader and takes you through the frustrations, hurdles, victories and despair suffered by DJ, his mother and foster family. DJ'S phobias and countless other problems are outlined and Dean conveys the manner in which he and his wife dealt with them.
"DJ was totally incontinent. He wet his bed. Would or could not speak except in one word sentences. He had the brain capacity of an 18 month old, even though he was already 4 years old. He would not play with other children. These were just some of the little things that had actually led to the foster mother's decision to rather have the child placed in an institution."
What is remarkable is that in the short time that he spent with this foster family, he became a different child. He was able to respond to love, he could talk and he overcame many of his problems. People who saw him, could not believe that this was the same child.
DJ came into the Robert's care as a "damaged" child, labeled as being retarded. Simple love and care made a miraculous change in this little boy's life. The tragedy came when he had to leave them.

Dean and Marlene Roberts have cared for more than 13 foster children over the years, all with their own unique set of problems. DJ was the first.

This book is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to gain a greater understanding of the hurdles faced by foster families in South Africa and the impact of abuse. It highlights the need to address the severe abuse of children in this country and the immense impact small acts of love and security can provide.

This book can be bought from the Just Done Productions website at http://www.justdone.co.za/catalog/ for R50.00. International customers can buy the book online from http://www.lulu.com/content/782705

Keywords: Abuse, phobias, Foster families, foster parenting, child abuse, abused women, sexual abuse

Press Release: Room full of Whispers - As ek Fluister, Sal jy Luister?

Just Done Publishing

Just Done Productions - Publishing would like to announce a new book  "Room Full of Whispers. As ek fluister, sal jy luister?" by Anitha Queck

Room full of Whispers. As ek fluister, Sal jy Luister? This volume of poetry is written in both Afrikaans and English and reflects the passion with which the author embraces life and all it has to offer. Anyone who has visited or lived on the West Coast of South Africa, will enjoy her work. These poems are infused with the poet's love of the elements- the vibrancy and sense of living closer to nature. The rich use of language, idiomatic and colloquial, infuses the poems with flavour like that of the Karoo Lamb.

From the Author

"Dis aan die Weskus waar ek my drome kon uitleef, waar ek kon skryf tot my siel leeg is, en waar ‘n mens ure langs die strand kan sit en jouself verloor in die magtigheid van die natuur.Ek skryf oor die lewe en emosies en hoop om só jou siel te bereik.

I used to live in Vredenburg, Western Cape, where you can get lost in your dreams and where you can live close to your God. I am passionate about life, trying to live my dream."

Here are some extracts from the book:

A Room full of Whispers

He paints his memories with soft strokes in his mind
and lets go of the glass
Shattered on the floor with dark amber wine,
like the memories have passed

She whispers and smiles as he turns around
to catch glimpses of where she can be
No matter where she turns to and where he goes,
beyond every turn there is she

She is in every whisper of the wind,
the rays of the sun, the colour of the wine
Everywhere he looks, he sees her face in every room,
could she ever be mine?

This book can be bought from the Just Done Productions website at http://www.justdone.co.za/catalog/ for R75.00. International customers can buy the book online from http://www.lulu.com/content/688936
