“The family history of the Fishers of Hingham Hall begins in the late 1700’s with James Fisher (1797-1835), gentleman farmer and owner of Hingham Hall, Norfolk.  James married Elizabeth Pitts who was born in 1801 at Wells, Somerset. James and Elizabeth had four children and it is the descendants of these four children that are followed in the pages of this book.

Through information provided by various members of this extended family, a small insight can be obtained into the family including those individuals who were early South African immigrants. Because the families of the four children of James and Elizabeth Fisher are closely connected, it is important to follow, to the best of one’s ability, the descendants of each child. I have tried to present an insight into the early life of these ancestors right through to their present day descendants.

It has taken 20 years to collect the information contained in this book from numerous sources, with several trips to South Africa and the United Kingdom. However, this is just a beginning and I hope that future generations will carry on the story.”

Karl Horst, a former professional model, wrote a book that he couldn’t read.  This was due to the fact that he was afflicted by the heartless attack of Multiple Sclerosis.  It was a hurdle that seemed like it could not be cleared.  As a result, he could only reach half a metre to his right, and half a metre to his left.  He held tightly to a laptop and pursued a passion he had always possessed, and that was to express himself in writing.  He always dreamed of being a writer and a poet. He wrote an emotional story about family, past hurts, love, treachery, magic and hopeful intentions.  He did this by using both fact and fiction and mixing all the genres of writing to illustrate his feelings through a difficult four-year period.  Karl did, however, feel every sentence – so read it slowly.  This book is very honest.  It is his story, funny and serious, real and creative.  Golden Boy is a must for anyone in search of their truth.

This book was prompted by family and friends who convinced me to record my wonderful childhood memories. All the characters in this short story are the actual people with whom I had the good fortune of sharing my life’s path, although some names have been changed. “
